Job Description

Program Overview

The communications consultant will support the communications works on four of WRI Indonesia’s program: Cities4Forests (C4F), Low Emission Zone (LEZ) Jakarta, The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), and Restore +.

Cities4Forests (C4F)

The C4F program is aimed to helps cities from around the world connect with and invest in inner forests (such as city trees and urban parks), nearby forests (such as green corridors and watersheds) and faraway forests (such as tropical and boreal forests). We encourage our cities to better conserve, manage, and restore these forests. And we provide technical assistance to align local policy, shared knowledge, peer-to-peer learning, and communication activities to help cities take climate action together. In Indonesia this program is implemented in Jakarta. More information about this project can be read here.

Low Emission Zone (LEZ) Jakarta

Alongside the C4F program, WRI Indonesia is also helping the Jakarta government to communicate its latest initiatives, the Low Emission Zone. The LEZ, as the name implied is aimed to create pockets of area with reduced emission from transportation and business activities. The overall aim of this project is to improve the air quality in Jakarta and encouraging the public to use public transportation. Currently the pilot project is undertaken in Kota Tua area.

The Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU)

The Food and Land Use (FOLU) Coalition is a community of organisations and individuals committed to the urgent need to transform the way we produce and consume food and use our land for people, nature and climate.  In Indonesia, FOLU is working on an Action Agenda document providing insight on pathway in transforming the way land is used and food is produced, up till it is marketed, consumed, and disposed of.  It embraces the social, political, economic and environmental systems that influence and are influenced by those activities. A keep part of the discussion is the associated financing requirement and opportunities, considering the economic benefit of the discussed transformation pathway and policies derived. More information about this project can be read here.

The Restore+ is a project will support the restoration, ranging from identifying the degradation, assessing the degradation impact, and proposing restoration options in South Sumatera and East Kalimantan. The project main activity is to feed credible and comprehensive on-ground data into the policymaking process on restoring degraded land in Indonesia. This is important because Indonesia’s development trajectory has long relied on the land-based economy through the extraction of natural resources. Forests and peatlands have been converted into plantations to increase agricultural production or mining sites for energy supply. As a result, the economic growth often comes at the cost of land degradation. To date, Indonesia has more than 24 million hectares of degraded land, equivalent to almost twice the size of England. Therefore, realizing the importance of land at the nexus between food, energy, and development, restoration is essential. More information about this project can be read here.

To support the above projects, WRI Indonesia is seeking an experienced Communications Consultant to work on the communications and engagement strategies and other communications works spectrum alongside the Communications Team. This person reports directly to the Communications Project Lead with close coordination with the program teams and working collaboratively with the rest of Communications Team.
